Project in Focus: CEVOLVER

The charging time, range and affordability are key factors for the broader market uptake of battery-electric vehicles. Therefore, the CEVOLVER project takes a user-centric approach to create solutions for comfortable long-distance trips while assuring affordability with a well-dimensioned battery. The developed demonstrator vehicles will be capable of using the new fast-charging standard. The CEVOLVER project consortium will reduce the energy consumption of future battery-electric vehicles by developing new thermal and energy management systems. In the second step, CEVOLVER will use connectivity to provide the driver with a more accurate range-prediction and assistance to find the most...

Project in Focus: AEROFLEX

Further reducing CO2 emissions while increasing road transport efficiency is a challenging objective, especially for commercial vehicles. With this ambition, the EUCAR members DAF Trucks, IVECO, Scania AB, Volvo Group and FIAT Chrysler Automobile, coordinated by MAN Truck and Bus, collaborate in the AEROFLEX project, developing new technologies, concepts and architectures for trucks. These vehicle demonstrators have optimised aerodynamics, powertrains and safety systems to decrease CO2 emissions while improving road transport efficiency and safety. Flexible and adaptable loading units with advanced connectivity will further increase the overall efficiency of logistics systems. AEROFLEX is...

Project in Focus: UPSCALE

UPSCALE is a European project aiming to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) with traditional physics-based Computer-Aided Engineering to drastically reduce the development time and increase electric vehicles’ (EVs) performance. This project is lead by IDIADA with the involvement of CRF-Stellantis, Volkswagen Group and Volvo Cars Corporation as industrial end-users. High-Performance Computing (HPC) and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) are key elements in the design and development of vehicles. They are used to simulate, for example, vehicle crash performance, aerodynamic behaviour or thermal characteristics. These vehicle simulations are very complex and time-consuming. The objective...

Project in Focus: ENSEMBLE

The ENSEMBLE project is paving the way for the adoption of multi-brand truck platooning in Europe. This will further improve fuel economy, reduce CO2 emissions, increase traffic safety and efficiency. The project started in June 2018 and will conclude with a demonstration event in 2021. Truck platooning is the linking of two or more trucks in a convoy, while multi-brand platooning is the link between trucks from different manufacturers. These vehicles closely follow each other at a set, close distance by using connectivity technology and automated driving support systems. ENSEMBLE aims at demonstrating that multi-brand platooning is technically feasible while holds great potential to...
