Horizon 2020 is vital to ensuring that automotive research and innovation (R&I) continues competitively in Europe. To highlight the industry’s priorities, the European Council for Automotive R&D (EUCAR) today presented its ‘Strategic Pillars’ of automotive R&I. EUCAR also addressed industry’s future challenges and expanded on the opportunities for strategic R&I afforded by Horizon 2020.

The Strategic Platform of Commercial Vehicles is a cross-cutting implementation domain which intersects with the three EUCAR Strategic Pillars of Research and Innovation. Today EUCAR is publishing an Executive Summary of its R&I roadmaps in this domain, outlining the main priorities for collaborative R&I for commercial vehicles in the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme from 2014-2020. For the third of its Strategic Pillars of automotive research and innovation (R&I), "Affordability & Competitiveness", EUCAR is publishing an executive summary of its roadmaps in this domain. The summary provides an overview of the priorities for collaborative automotive R&I for the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme, planned for the period 2014 to 2020. It sets out a strategic vision for the domain, the milestones to be reached for future industrialisation of technologies and the specific research areas of key importance.

Last Friday, EUCAR, represented by its Director S. Godwin, made a presentation on collaborative automotive research and innovation in Europe at the North American International Powertrain Conference in Chocago, USA. The presentation was on the invitation of the Society of Automotive Engineers, in front of an audience of senior American automotive powertrain executives. EUCAR is publishing the second summary of its series of roadmaps for research and innovation (R&I) in Horizon 2020, for the Strategic Pillar "Sustainable Propulsion". The summary sets out the EUCAR strategic vision for sustainable propulsion technologies, derived from the long-term objectives for industry and society, within the context of global trends.
