The ENSEMBLE project is paving the way for the adoption of multi-brand truck platooning in Europe. This ambitious objective will help improving fuel economy, CO2 emissions, traffic safety and efficiency throughout the road freight sector.
To achieve its objective, ENSEMBLE is increasing safe platooning when using different branded trucks and carrying out impact assessment for infrastructure, safety and traffic flow. Traffic and road authorities have been approached to jointly define road approval requirements. Platoon Operation Levels were defined to guide the design of different platooning functionalities and strategies, reflecting the full diversity of trucks with platooning...
OBELICS addresses the urgent need for new tools to enable multi-level modelling and testing of EV and their components in order to deliver more efficient vehicle designs faster while supporting modularity to enable mass production and hence improved affordability. The overall objective of OBELICS is to develop a systematic and comprehensive framework for the design, development and testing of advanced e-powertrains and EVs line-ups, to reduce development efforts by 40% while improving efficiency of the e-drivetrain by 20% and increase safety by a factor of 10 using OBELICS advanced heterogeneous model-based testing methods and tools; as well as scalable and easy to parameterize real-time...
DOMUS aims at radically changing the way vehicle passenger compartments and their respective comfort control systems are designed, specifically for Electric Vehicle (EV) development. This new design methodology will optimise energy use and efficiency while keeping user comfort and safety needs central. Efficient EVs are essential to further reducing the impact on the environment; inefficiencies must be minimised due to their detrimental effect on the range.
The project started with activities to better understand “comfort” for users. Numerical models characterising thermal and acoustic properties of the passenger compartment were developed. This approach allows to create a...
On January 2020 three EUCAR members (DAF Trucks, IVECO, and Volvo Group), launched the LONGRUN project (Development of efficient and environmental friendly long-distance powertrain for heavy-duty trucks and coaches).
In the long haul transport sector, the reduction of real driving emissions and fuel consumption is the main societal challenge. The LONGRUN project will contribute to lower the impacts by developing different engines, drivelines and demonstrator vehicles with 10% energy saving (TtW) and related CO2, 30% lower emission exhaust (NOx, CO and others), and 50% Peak Thermal Efficiency.
A second achievement will be the multiscale simulation framework to support the design and...
The HEADSTART (Harmonised European Solutions for Testing Automated Road Transport) project aims to define testing and validation procedures of Cooperated, Connected and Automated Mobility (CCAM) functions including key technologies such as communications, cyber-security and positioning. The tests will be in both simulation and real-world fields to validate safety and security performance according to the key users’ needs.
The project main objectives are:
Identify the existing methodologies, procedures and tools for testing, validation and certification;
Harmonise the existing testing and validation approaches;
Define and develop test, validation and certification...
More than 60 companies and research centres collaborate in the ENABLE-S3 project. It aims at significantly raising the level of reliability for automated systems while addressing the effort and costs needed for testing. ENABLE-S3 will provide a comprehensive modular verification and validation framework.
The final event of the project was held on 16-17 May 2019 at the Helmut List Halle in Graz, Austria. At this two days’ event, the ENABLE-S3 project partners presented the key results of 3 years of intense research activities in the area of automated systems. Visitors had the exclusive opportunity to gain first-hand insights into demonstrators and meet the people driving this project...
