EUCAR hosts the Programme Board Commercial Vehicles

The series of the 2025 EUCAR Programme Board meetings ended this week with the Commercial Vehicles.

The meeting covered the relevant research areas for automotive OEMs in commercial vehicles, i.e., R&I challenges, priorities for sustainable mobility and digitalisation of road transport. The EUCAR Programme Board meetings bring together senior research leaders from automotive OEMs, senior experts from the supply industry, several different European Commission services, and project coordinators.

ACEA and CEDR joined the Commercial Vehicle Programme Board 2025 to discuss the challenges for zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles with regard to infrastructure requirements (e.g. charging and refuelling) and the effect that EV fleets might have on pavements and bridges.

The meeting participants further reviewed the status and progress in relevant R&I projects to identify potential synergies and priorities for future research. The ZEFES and FLEXMCS projects presented their status, illustrating the challenges of zero-emission vehicles. Commercial vehicle manufacturers demonstrate flexible zero-emission vehicle platforms with modular powertrains for the long-haul freight ecosystem in ZEFES. The FLEXMCS project aims to enhance electric truck charging infrastructure by developing scalable, energy-efficient megawatt charging hubs.

Regarding the Digitalisation of Road Transport for Commercial Vehicles, the MODI project presented the status and results. The project aims to push the boundaries of automated driving capabilities for transporting goods towards SAE Level 4.
