EUCAR Perspective on Artificial Intelligence
European technology sovereignty requires investments from both public and private actors to retain expertise in Europe, thereby strengthening manufacturing, job security, and economic growth. Investments are crucial for addressing societal challenges while enhancing the EU’s competitiveness and ensuring a high quality of life.
As leading investors in research and innovation, EUCAR members aim to accelerate innovation from applied research to scale-up, prioritising impact and facilitating large-scale innovation initiatives with substantial industrial participation and leadership. AI is a key driver and technology in achieving the targets as part of this Vision:
The innovations in Digitalisation of Road Transport will have a remarkable economic impact. Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays a major role in future services and digital value chains, not only in connected and automated driving but also in intelligent mobility services. Strengthening European Industries in the development and integration of AI technologies is a geopolitical necessity to avoid future strategic dependencies.
Europe needs a functioning ecosystem for the development and integration of AI in automotive. Implementing AI in automotive design, development, tools, production, innovative value chains, and finally, in products, brings a variety of challenges and opportunities, such as in industrialisation, requirement-based development, data availability, data quality, interfaces and continuous improvement of trained modules for applications, specifically in safety-critical domains.
The EUCAR Expert Group works on implementing and using AI as a functional competitive, and affordable technology to accelerate innovation across all automotive domains.
