Hi-Drive webinar: Automated Driving in adverse weather conditions and GNSS denied areas

On 22 September 2023, from 10.00 to 12.00 CEST, the Hi-Drive consortium will host a webinar on Automated Driving in adverse weather conditions, and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) denied areas.

The Hi-Drive project advances the European state-of-the-art of automated driving from SAE L3′ Conditional Automation’ further towards ‘High Automation’ by demonstrating in large-scale trials the robustness and reliability of connected and automated driving (CAD) functions. The focus is on testing and evaluating a variety of functionalities, from motorway chauffeur to urban chauffeur, analysed in various scenarios covering different driving cultures across Europe.

In the upcoming webinar, the Hi-Drive consortium invites you to participate and get insights on the critical domains of automated driving in adverse weather conditions and GNSS-denied areas. These topics are highly relevant to the project’s large-scale roadshow demonstration campaign: Roadshow#1 in Lapland, Finland, in February 2023; Roadshow#2 at Tunnel Rennsteig, Germany, in June 2023.

The webinar participants will gain insights into the strategies aimed at expanding the Operational Design Domain (ODD) of automated driving:

  • Research scientists from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and Bosch will focus on automated driving in extreme conditions (e.g. arctic regions). They will present enablers such as ‘Landmark Signature Recognition‘ and ‘HotSpot MapCloud‘, integrated in their research vehicles.
  • In collaboration with BASt, the Federal Highway Research Institute from Germany, Valeo Germany shows strategies for dealing with GPS signal loss or restricted camera visibility to lighting transitions and tunnel geometry.
