Project in focus: ENSEMBLE

The ENSEMBLE project is paving the way for the adoption of multi-brand truck platooning in Europe. This project will further improve fuel economy, reduce CO2 emissions, increase traffic safety and efficiency. The project started in June 2018 and will conclude with a demonstration event in 2021.

Truck platooning links two or more trucks in convoy, while multi-brand platooning links trucks from different manufacturers. These vehicles closely follow each other at a set, by using connectivity technology and automated driving support systems. ENSEMBLE aims at demonstrating that multi-brand platooning is technically feasible while holds great potential to make road transport safer, cleaner and more efficient in the future.

The project has just announced a public demonstration in Spain on 23 September 2021. In this event, ENSEMBLE aims at demonstrating that multi-brand platooning is technically feasible while holds great potential to make road transport safer, cleaner and more efficient in the future. A platoon consisting of seven trucks, one from each leading European manufacturer, will drive from a logistics hub to Barcelona harbour. During the physical event, you will be experiencing a live platooning demonstration and an interesting programme of presentations about platooning and the project as a whole. Participants will have the opportunity to follow the platoon in real-time while learning more about the ENSEMBLE project’s technical realisation and standardisation side.

You can find more information on the event and the registration here.

ENSEMBLE consortium includes all six European truck manufacturers. They will bring in their fore-running technological position on platooning: DAF, DAIMLER, IVECO, MAN, SCANIA and VOLVO. The consortium is completed with suppliers (CLEPA, NXP, ZF. Bosch, Continental and WABCO) to support OEM implementations, and research partners (TNO, IDIADA, UGE, KTH and VU Brussel). ERTICO supports the project by involving relevant stakeholders.

This project is co-funded under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 769115.
