ENSEMBLE Final Event
On Thursday, 17 March 2022, the final event of the ENSEMBLE project was live-streamed. The event focussed on the achievements and the results of the project and discussed with experts and stakeholder representatives the needs for adopting this technology in Europe. Stefan Deix (Director of EUCAR), David Storer (CLEPAS’s Director of Research Innovation), Steve Phillips (Secretary General at CEDR), Carlo Giro (Manager EU Goods Transport at IRU), and Marika Hoedemaeker (TNO, ENSEMBLE project coordinator) highlighted the excellent collaboration of all ENSEMBLE partners which played an instrumental role in the development, implementation, and demonstration of the multi-brand platooning technologies to ensure safe deployment of truck platoons on European roads.
“After almost four years of research and development, Europe has now created a common solution ready for standardisation. This means an important step forward in the direction of improved traffic safety, efficiency, and reduced fuel emissions. As TNO, we are very proud to have made a significant contribution to this”. Dr Marika Hoedemaeker, ENSEMBLE Project Coordinator, TNO stated.
The European Commission representatives Ewa Ptaszynska (DG Move), Patrick Mercier-Handisyde (DG RTD), Antony Lagrange (DG GROW), and Georgios Sarros (CINEA) emphasised the project results as relevant contributions to reaching the EU policy goals for sustainable road transport and strengthening the competitiveness of the EU industry.
About ENSEMBLE
The ENSEMBLE project is paving the way to adopt multi-brand truck platooning in Europe. Truck platooning links two or more trucks in convoy using connectivity, while multi-brand platooning connects vehicles from different manufacturers. It will improve energy efficiency, reduce CO2 emissions, and increase traffic efficiency and safety.
