Project in Focus: LONGRUN

The LONGRUN project develops efficient and environmentally friendly long-distance powertrains for heavy-duty trucks and coaches. The project confirms the commitment of the automotive industry to decrease CO2 emissions in road transport. Thirty partners from the automotive industry, research, logistic companies and road authorities, including three EUCAR members (DAF Trucks, IVECO Group, and Volvo Group), collaborate to increase the sustainability of road transport.

Recently, LONGRUN results were presented in the “heavy-duty vehicle of the future” session of the European Commission Horizon 2020 research in transport conference. The industrial partners in the project reported significant improvements in the powertrain efficiencies. These efficiencies will be validated in the coming months.  In total, three engines, two long-distance coaches and three long haulage trucks have been built by the partners in the project, and their performance will be tested.
