Project in Focus: The ZEFES project consortium held a stakeholder symposium in Spain

In the ZEFES project, the commercial vehicle manufacturers, demonstrate flexible zero emission vehicle platforms with modular powertrains for the long-haul freight EcoSystem. The objective is to provide means for decarbonising the long-distance freight transport sector by demonstrating real-world applications with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) across Europe. On 24 and 25 October ZEFES organised a stakeholder symposium at IDIADA’s testing facilities in Santa Oliva, Spain.

One of the objectives of the ZEFES project is to understand the needs and requirements for implementing zero-emission heavy-duty vehicles in real-world operations. A survey was published online to gather feedback from various stakeholder groups. In the Spain symposium, the results of this survey have been shared and discussed with all stakeholders involved in ZEFES:  transport, shipping and logistic operators, heavy-duty vehicle manufacturers, infrastructure providers, road authorities and research centres discussed the needs and requirements identified in the project. The discussion points covered: truck-trailer technologies, the fleet integration via digital twin, safety and acceptance, infrastructure needs, business cases and regulatory constraints.

EUCAR was represented by Luis de Prada, Research Programme Manager.
