TRA2024: Advancing Sustainable and Inclusive Mobility

The Transport Research Arena (TRA) brings together researchers, policymakers, and industry representatives to contribute to reshaping the transport and mobility system through research and innovation. The European Commission and the technology platforms (e.g. ERTRAC) organise this event every two years.

This year’s TRA was held in Dublin, Ireland, from 15 to 18 April 2024. The conference focused on “Transport Transitions: Advancing Sustainable and Inclusive Mobility”. The main themes discussed were safe and inclusive transport, sustainable mobility of people and goods, collaborative digitalisation, and efficient and resilient systems.

The OEMs of the automotive industry were well represented at the event:

  • Rudolf Bencker, Senior Vice President, Innovation Management at BMW Group, spoke in the Safe & Inclusive Transport plenary session.
  • Gerald Killman, Senior Vice President of Connected Technologies, Hydrogen Factory Europe, Purchasing and R&D at Toyota Motor Europe, spoke in the Sustainable Mobility of People and Goods plenary session.
  • The strategic sessions featured Niklas Gustafsson, Head of Public Policy & Regulatory Affairs at Volvo Group, Markus Seidel, Head of Research Circular Economy, BMW Group and Federico Cartasegna, Innovation Manager Funding and Cooperation at Iveco Group, as speakers.

More EUCAR members were speaking in the technical sessions. Among many projects, the EUCAR’s flagship project Hi-Drive was presented. Hi-Drive advances the European state-of-the-art for automated driving.
