Updated EUCAR Battery Technologies Research Recommendations
We recently updated our research recommendations for battery technologies for future automotive applications.
Advancing battery technologies and battery management systems is important for enhancing the user experience and meeting customer expectations, enabling large-scale adoption of sustainable mobility solutions. The aim is to improve the performance of battery-electric vehicles in terms of range, durability, and affordability, while addressing sustainability through innovation in battery technologies and management systems for current and future cell chemistries.
EUCAR is fully committed to achieving the Green Deal target of a climate-neutral continent by 2050. Our highest priority is to mitigate the impacts of climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from our products and operations. We develop sustainable mobility solutions through energy- and resource-efficient technologies that are carbon-neutral over the entire life cycle and contribute to an enhanced quality of life for European citizens. We develop processes that support a circular economy while reducing the environmental footprint across the value chain.

Battery requirements for future automotive applications (Version 2026)
The purpose of this document is to provide an automotive perspective on the requirement targets for the main traction battery in BEVs for 2030-2035. Based on today’s understanding of the state of the art in battery technologies and their applications, and considering their projected development over the next decade, the expert group has set challenging targets for battery requirements. These targets are intended to guide researchers, policymakers, and other interested parties in setting realistic goals that can be achieved within the specified timeframe. To track the fast-paced development of batteries and EVs, the expert group recommends checking, expanding, and updating this document regularly. In this version, the targets are presented in a table for BEVs, with a focus on average mass-market vehicles. Specific requirements for high-performance or speciality vehicles are not considered.
